A few years ago, a good friend (and skincare aficionado) gently told me that my skin looked a bit dry. This was a surprise - I’d always had low maintenance skin that didn’t need much fussing over. But she was right, and that was a wake-up call.
It turned out that my skin was changing and needed more nourishment, so I dived into skincare with renewed focus.
Now, after plenty of experimentation, I can feel and see the difference, and I love it.
The Importance of Skin Nutrition from Within
For me, skincare isn’t just about what I apply on my skin; it’s about nourishing my body from the inside out. Every day, I take high quality Omega-3 fish oil and Udo’s Oil, and I stay hydrated with plenty of water.
Most days, I add a shot of collagen to my coffee, which benefits my skin, joints, and digestion. And I love including vitamin E-rich avocados in my diet to give my skin that extra glow. Here’s an overview of what I’m using:
Exfoliant - PHA 10% Natural Face Peel
When my friend advised me to use an Acid Face Peel instead of the granular exfoliant I usually use, it sounded very aggressive and not at all natural! But this PHA Peel from Olae is actually very gentle, and my skin is much softer and smoother after using it. The PHA 10% Exfoliant Face Peel is a natural exfoliator formulated with polyhydroxy acids (PHAs), known as the second generation of fruit-derived acids. They gently break down dead skin cells without the irritation sometimes associated with deeper-penetrating AHAs or BHAs. They advise using it twice a week, so I’m doing that. In addition to exfoliating, PHAs are very moisturising, and your skin feels great.
Serum Eclat Glow – 15% Vitamin C Serum
This serum’s powerhouse ingredient, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (a stable form of vitamin C), is 90% pure, paired with ethyl molecules to deeply penetrate the skin. Serum Eclat Glow is pH-balanced to match skin’s natural acidity, which means no irritation. After a month of daily use, I’ve noticed that my skin looks more even and bright - even without makeup. Plus, it layers beautifully, without any stickiness!
Anti-Aging Oil – 3% Bakuchiol-Squalane with Astaxanthin
This Anti-Aging Oil combines bakuchiol (a plant-based alternative to retinol), astaxanthin (an antioxidant powerhouse), and squalane to deliver hydration and reduce signs of ageing like fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Bakuchiol is as effective as retinol but without the irritation, and astaxanthin protects against UV damage. I use this in the morning, and the lovely red tint adds a subtle glow to my skin, as if I’ve had just the right amount of sun.
Botanical Hydration – 2% Beta Glucan with 1.5% Bamboo Ferment
This Botanical Hydration is my favourite Olae product, this serum feels like a drink of water for my skin. The beta glucan, derived from mushrooms, is 20% more hydrating than hyaluronic acid, helping soothe irritation and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Paired with bamboo ferment, rich in biosilica and flavonoids, this serum promotes elasticity and smoothness. The result? Hydrated, resilient skin with a natural glow.
