Organic Atlantic Wakame 40g
Wild Irish Seaweed offers Organic Atlantic Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida), a brown seaweed known for its mild, spinach-like flavour and tender bite. Originally a staple of Japanese cuisine, wakame now grows in abundance along Ireland’s rugged coastline, thriving on wave-battered rocks and in rock pools during the colder months. Harvested in mid-spring to early summer, it is collected at its nutritional peak.
Versatile and nutrient-rich, Atlantic Wakame can be enjoyed fresh (rehydrated) or cooked in various ways. It pairs especially well with eggs, fish, chicken, tofu, and grains, and makes an excellent addition to soups, mashed potatoes, and noodle dishes. It can also be wrapped around fish before steaming or baking, or incorporated into croquettes and patties for a unique twist.
Directions
- To rehydrate, soak in cold water for up to 5 minutes with a pinch of salt.
- If salted, wash thoroughly before use. If fresh, rinse well before preparing.
- Can be eaten rehydrated or boiled for up to 15 minutes. Do not overboil.
- Use as a substitute for cabbage or spinach in a wide range of dishes.
- Store in a cool, dry place and reseal after opening to maintain freshness.
