The New Year brings with it an opportunity to shed old habits and embrace small, positive changes that support health and happiness in big ways. As we reflect upon the year behind us and look forward to the year ahead, here are a few of the resolutions we’re excited to commit to and the products that will make them possible. Which will you try?
1. Cook with a healthier oil
Try: Ekoplaza Cooking Coconut Oil
As Dee in our shop has to say about it:
“Ever since I took on board the importance of only using stable, naturally saturated oils for cooking (to avoid oxidative stress to cells) I have noticed: dry skin patches have disappeared, meal digestion is far easier and there's a lighter cleaner taste and texture to my food allowing the real flavour of what I'm cooking to come through.”
2. Always have a quick and easy meal option at hand
Try: White-Mausu Peanut Rāyu
This peanut-rich condiment is made in Dublin and fuses Japanese and Chinese flavours in a devastatingly delicious recipe. Drizzle onto roasted or steamed vegetables, use as a marinade for tofu, toss into a stir-fry, spread on toast and top with eggs or avocado, stir into noodles...or just eat straight from the jar.
3. Moisturise from the inside out
Try: Your Beauty Tonic
Your Beauty Tonic is a food supplement made in Ireland that’s designed to moisturise and rejuvenate your skin from the inside out. The formula contains 16 ingredients essential to skin health—including hyaluronic acid, MSM, collagen, vitamin A and magnesium—that are known to promote radiance and improve elasticity. Each nutrient in Your Beauty Tonic is in its most potent and bioavailable form when mixed with water to make a drink. And as a major plus, this supplement supports joint health too!
4. Eat more sourdough
Try: Organico Sourdough Bread
In our bakery, we make fresh bread daily the way it’s supposed to be made. Our sourdough contains organic whole grain flours and is fermented for 36 hours for better flavour and improved digestibility.
5. Drink ethical coffee
Try: Red Strand Coffee beans
One of Hannah's favourites: “I'm so in love with our coffee, which Shane from Red Strand in Clonakilty roasts especially for us, that I took it away on a family holiday to Spain recently! It's from a small organic grower in Ethiopia, and tastes delicious made into a flat white with the Barista Oatmilk.”
6. Eat ethical chocolate
Try: Original Beans Chocolate
Our new Original Beans organic chocolate bars are for serious chocolate lovers. Each bar is single origin and made from a specific type of cacao bean. Their production is kind to the workers and land involved in the process. What’s more, a tree is planted for every bar bought. As Hannah says about them, “If you thought you knew what chocolate tasted like, think again!”
7. Try something new (for your health)
Try: Hifas da Terra mushroom-based supplements
What about giving mushrooms a go for their health boosting benefits? Mushrooms have been used for their medicinal properties for centuries. We carry an organic range of mushroom-based supplements (including smoothie powders and kids’ products) that target everything from the common cold, to digestive issues, to anti-aging and memory loss.
8. Amp up your skincare routine
Try: Kinvara Skincare - 24HR Rosehip Serum
Many skin experts recommend a daily serum for an extra boost of moisture and anti-aging properties that other types of skincare products just can’t deliver. Katie, in our shop, is a fan of the Irish brand Kinvara: “I started using this serum about 2 years ago and it has become a regular part of my nightly routine. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, soft and the rose gives a lovely glow.”
9. Take care of your gut
Try: Udo’s Choice Super 8 Microbiotic
For any of us recovering from the (well-deserved) indulgences of the Christmas season, a probiotic can help us get back on track and our digestive system in optimal working order. As Dee says, “When your diet has tipped towards sugars and white carbs, you're bloated, you're sluggish and suffer from brain fog, your skin is dull, flaky, blemished...this is my favourite probiotic. With a nice balance of 8 microbiotic strains, 4 for the small intestine, 4 for the large. With 42 billion strength, Super 8 gets to the gut with only one capsule a day...a no-brainer!”
10. Eat more sea vegetables
Try: Wild Irish Sea Veg
Seaweed. It’s highly nutritious. It grows abundantly along Ireland’s coast. It’s easy to sustainably harvest. And it’s easy to prepare. Why isn’t it a bigger part of our diets? Change that this year with Wild Irish Sea Veg’s range of dried seaweeds. Not sure where to start? Give one of the following recipes a go!
Whatever your resolutions, hopes, dreams and wishes for the year ahead, we hope they bring you health and (importantly) happiness. From all of us at Organico, have a wonderful New Year!
